Motivated employees is a key element not only for a high productivity of your staff but also for retaining your best employees. The best and talented employees are always in great demand so they can easily change companies if they are not motivated at their current places of work. However, keeping staff motivated doesn’t require money as long as you can think in a positive and creative way.

We’ve singled out six steps that can lead to enhancing employee motivation without spending a penny.

Step 1. Communicate. 


Make sure that communication within your company is organized in a proper way, so employees can easily voice their ideas and thoughts and give feedbacks not only via e-mails. Every day leave time to speak to your employees to learn how are they doing at work and in whole so they can feel more involved.

Step 2. Give opportunities to study. 


Every employee wants to develop his knowledge and skills, to learn something new. That’s why provide staff members with the possibility to do that, for example, by inviting them to attend significant meetings that cross functional areas.

Employees want to continue to develop their knowledge and skills. Employees do not want jobs that they perceive as no-brain drudge work.


Step 3. Increase responsibility. 


Employees who are given the right to make decisions feel more authority in the company and that’s why they are more motivated to perform their duties in the most effective way to make the business succeed. Let your staff the possibility to be responsible for projects and provide them with opportunities to study to improve their skills.

Step 4. Implement flexible working hours. 


Some employees admit that their productivity sometimes depends on the time of day and on their lifestyle and circumstances. Offer your staff options for flexible working and retain employees who need a job that is not from 9 to 5 only.

Step 5. Reward employees for good performance. 


For sure, you can introduce a whole bonuses system based in the outputs, but you can also just send an employee a thank you note to thank him for his special contribution or give a verbal praise.

Step 6. Treat motivation as a whole strategy.
